The Newcastle MBA Golf Club (Incorporated 2015) was formed for the purpose of social contact between MBA members, associated trades and affiliated bodies and the professions, i.e. architects, engineers, surveyors, etc. The Club was founded in 1963. It was an immediate success and still continues to be with over 100 active members.
A yearly program of events is arranged with one game every month played at various quality Hunter Region golf courses. Additional competitions are run in conjunction, i.e. Championship, Points Score etc.; an Annual Dinner and Presentation of major trophies; a 5 day National Tournament. Many outings include a restaurant dinner or tasty brunch and each monthly game involves a Member's Name Draw for vouchers presented by the local Pro.
Club membership packages are tailored to suit a variety of circumstances, from the novice golfer through to the regular weekend player, which enables subscribers to promote their business through the club and to treat valued clients, deserving employees or just family and friends to a coveted MBA golf day.
Costs to members range from $60 - $120 for a premium day at, for example, Newcastle GC, Horizons, The Vintage, Cypress Lakes, Pacific Dunes, Toronto, Stonecutters Ridge, Hawks Nest and Belmont. All matches include cart hire. Visitors and members' guests are charged $100.
For many years the club has enjoyed a friendly rivalry with our brothers from the near south, the NSW Master Builders & Exchange Golf Club, which is tested annually and played traditionally at a neutral golf venue on the Central Coast. In the past the event has been played in alternating years at the exclusive and quality courses.
Another opportunity we enjoy is attending the annual Master Builders Australia Inc. Tournament where with the other 6 state and regional MBA golf clubs we compete over 5 days for the M.R. Hornibrook Cup. This annual event, started in 1958 and is hosted on a 7 year rotational basis. Newcastle hosted the 2024 event in the Hunter Valley. The Hornibrook, as it is known colloquially, is an unsurpassed networking and bonding experience that has attracted a number of our members on a regular basis. Two members have attended this event on 50 occasions.
